Time is a Segment of Eternity

Time is transient! It is a process that flows like a river, it is always on the move, it waits for nobody and it never stops. From the rising of the sun and the going down of the same, from the time of birth to the point of death, the journey of life is measured in TIME. In the physical realm where we live, time is measured in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years. However in the unseen realm, there is no such yardstick for measuring time because time is part of eternity. The bible says one thousand years with man is like a day with God! When you look at it from this point, you will understand that time is only relevant to us here on earth in the physical world.

Time is an equal opportunity employer. It offers everybody the same condition of service, duration and chance. There is nothing anybody can do to increase the number of hours in a day for instance. So irrespective of your background, gender, educational qualifications, skin colour etc, we all have the same number of minutes in an hour and hours in a day. The difference is simply what you are able to achieve or accomplish within your allocated hour. It is not the size of the dog in the fight that matters; rather it is the size of the fight in the dog. In the same way, it is not the number of working hours in your day that matters, rather it is the volume of productive work that you are able to bring into your working hours that will determine your level of success. Some people usually confuse activity with productivity; you can be busy doing nothing! The question that should occupy your mind is “what have I achieved with my time”.

The Bible says in Psalm 90:12 “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” Unless you take care of the seconds in your day, the hours will suffer or become wasted. When you are conscious of the goals that are set before you on a daily basis, you will spend and manage your time carefully and apply wisdom to each second. In other to maximize your time, you have to start by determining what your life goals are and divide them into smaller sizes down to each second in a day. Time wasting is a proof that your life has no destination or goal. In order for your goals to have long-term positive impact, they must include several areas of your life. You must have career goals, financial goals, spiritual goals, physical goals, intellectual goals, family goals and social goals. If you leave one of these areas out, you have what’s known as a flat tire. Your life will be out of balance and the ride won’t be as smooth.

These goals will overlap each other at different points, but they will still have their individual characteristics. Time is an innate object and therefore has no feelings and does not show partiality towards any particular person. You can neither create nor kill it. When you hear people say things like “I am just killing time”, what they are saying is “I have no goals in life so I don’t know what to do with my time”. Time is money and time is precious. You cannot store it up for later use, because as we alluded to at the beginning it is constantly and perpetually on the move. All that you can do with time is spend it and once spent, it is gone forever. Time comes and time goes, at different times or seasons in our lives, we will encounter different challenges and opportunities.

The wise thing to do is to be prepared and ensure we recognize the season that we are in so that when the opportunities come, we are ready to maximize them to our advantage. One of the best ways to determine what you do with your time is to look in your diary and see what entries are in it, because they will reveal the things that are important to you and where you spend your time. Indeed, also look at your bank statements as this will also reveal where your time is spent, after all you have exchanged your “time” to earn the money you are currently spending. This process will in turn paint a picture of where you are and where you are heading. Time is like money and wisdom, if you respect and manage them, they will in turn prosper you abundantly.

One Response to Time is a Segment of Eternity

  1. Ola Lawson says:

    Brilliant!!
Time indeed had no negative qualities for what Time yields depends on us. The greatest yield I have discovered from my time is Prayer.
Time is part of the works of God and glory be to his name- He has given us dominion over all the works of His hands.
