Hope

What is Hope?

 Hope is:

* The feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.

* To look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence.

* To believe, desire, or trust

Hope is the mother of faith. Without hope, faith has nothing to attach itself to because faith is the substance or the tangibility of what we hope for. Nothing can steal your joy, kill your dream or destroy your deepest desires if you can protect your hope. In fact, make sure that if you loose everything and everybody in life, the last thing standing in your life is your Hope.

Hope comes from a deep sense of knowing in whom or what your hope is anchored upon and sometimes you cannot explain or put this sense of security or assurance in words; but that does not negate the fact that you still have Hope and that the hope is sure. When you have life, there is hope because the Bible says For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.” Ecclesiastes 9:4

Life is full of ups and downs and sometimes, the journey of life can shake or threaten you hope, if you are in this position right now, keep on having hope and keep on believing in your hope for surely, your hope will bring forth life again. In the Bible, when Jairus was told not to bother Jesus anymore because his daughter was dead at home, immediately, Jesus recognising that Jairus’s hope is been attacked, He immediately gave him a Hope “shot” by telling him to just keep believing. And because he kept on believing and holding fast to his hope, Jesus raised his daughter from dead. When you secure or anchor your hope on the solid rock of Jesus Christ and refuse to be persuaded otherwise, you will see the end of your faith.

When you read through the biblical “faith hall of fame” in Hebrews 11, you will discover that even though they were all commended for their faith, their faith was reinforced by their hopes, hope in something they can not relate to with their five senses of touching, smelling, hearing, feeling or tasting. In verse 5, it went further by saying “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. In my opinion, the operative word in this passage of scripture is “believe” because it is the anchor or the connector between God and those who long to please Him. Remember in our original definition, Hope is defined as “believe”.

Hope in the future will give you the strength to press pass the troubles of today. Even Jesus Christ had to operate in hope when the Bible says He looked beyond the pain and the shame of the cross by focusing His eyes on the joy that is set before Him in His glory. Do not let today rub you of your tomorrow by letting go of your hope because it has a great reward in store for you. The Bible says in Hebrews 10:35 “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which has great recompense of reward.”

Another factor that can steal your hope is the feeling of delay. The Bible says “Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12 As you can see from this passage, the end of the matter is usually better than its beginning. It is very tempting to take delay for denial, but if you can respond to what seems like a delay in the same way that Abraham did, by hoping against hope, refusing to let go your of confidence and confession, adding praise to your confession and behave as though your hope has materailise, the enemy will have no choice but to flee and leave you alone. Hope is the bedrock of all change, be hopeful and tomorrow will be fine!
